40 Years and Counting, an exhibition celebrating four decades of William Campbell
Contemporary Art, will be on display November 22 through January 31. The gallery
will host an opening reception and party for patrons, gallery artists, and the
community at large on Saturday, November 22, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The comprehensive
show will feature the Campbell's 40-plus artists, many of whom have been with the
gallery since its early days, including Stephen Daly, Michel Demanche, Julie
Lazarus, Mark Smith, Richard Thompson, Kevin Tolman, Cecil Touchon, and Judy
Pam and Bill Campbell opened their gallery in 1974, after leaving respective
careers in retail management and commercial art. The couple leased space on
Camp Bowie Boulevard in the building that formerly housed the Chapman Gallery,
and began to shape what would become Fort Worth's first gallery devoted
exclusively to contemporary art. Seven years later, the gallery moved to its
current location on Byers, reaffirming its status as the city's flagship
contemporary gallery and Cultural District anchor.
Over the past 40 years, the Campbells have remained leaders in establishing
the Fort Worth gallery scene, and have continuously worked to bolster the arts
community through both commercial and volunteer endeavors. They were founding
members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association, as well as the principal
engineers of that organization's biannual Gallery Night. They are also active
supporters of the Emergency Artists Support League (E.A.S.L.).
Reflecting on the past four decades, Bill remarks: "All facets of our lives
revolve around the gallery. It's a 24/7 enterprise, and we enjoy every minute.
We treasure the relationships we have built with our clients and artists, and
many of them have become our good friends. We are so pleased and honored to be
celebrating 40 years of bringing the finest contemporary art to Fort Worth."
A portion of sales from the 40 Years and Counting anniversary exhibition
will benefit E.A.S.L.
