OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, september 6, 2025 | FWADA fall GALLERY NIGHT 11:00 Am – 9:00 PM
EXHIBITION ON VIEW: september 6 – october 11, 2025

William Campbell Gallery is pleased to announce Ethereal Goats, Earthly Pecans, a solo exhibition by North Texas artist Victoria Gonzales. The exhibition will run from September 6 through October 11, 2025, with an opening reception held in conjunction with FWADA Fall Gallery Night on Saturday, September 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition throughout the day and join us in the evening to meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and experience this intimate and thoughtfully crafted body of work.

Ethereal Goats, Earthly Pecans is a richly layered exploration of memory, tradition, and the landscapes of South Texas. Grounded in her identity as a Latina woman from Texas, Gonzales reflects on the evolution of work, land, and cultural practice—from her grandparents’ labor in the fields to her parents’ transformation of their home into a thriving farm.

Across painting, drawing, textiles, and ceramics, Gonzales builds visual narratives rooted in care and connection. Her imagery draws from personal and cultural history, inviting viewers to consider how place and ancestry shape the rhythms of daily life.

In Pecan Shadows, pecans from her mother’s garden float in an illusionistic space, evoking the quiet passage of time. Sacred Candle glows with the enduring act of lighting candles for protection, prayer, and remembrance. Creating Altars interlaces a plum tree from her family’s land, weathered fences from her neighborhood, and sacred candles, forming a tapestry of spirituality and place.

“Victoria’s work resonates in such a personal and universal way,” says Misty Locke, Managing Partner of William Campbell Gallery.  “Her pieces are tender, rooted in history, yet they speak to timeless human experiences. You feel as though you’ve stepped into someone’s intimate memories, and in doing so, you find echoes of your own.”

For Gonzales, the work is both personal history and a shared story. “Much of my practice is about honoring the labor, generational practices, and landscapes that have shaped my family,” she shares. “I want the viewer to sense the weight of a pecan in their palm, the flicker of candlelight in a still room, or the texture of a weathered fence—because those small, tactile moments carry our history forward.”

Through this lens, Ethereal Goats, Earthly Pecans offers a meditative encounter with themes of identity, land, and the enduring bonds that connect us across generations.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Victoria Gonzales is a Fort Worth-based artist originally from San Antonio, Texas. Working across painting, drawing, ceramics, and textiles, her multidisciplinary practice explores themes of identity, memory, ritual, and place, often rooted in her experience as a Tejano woman and shaped by the cultural landscape of South Texas. Through intimate, materially rich compositions, Gonzales creates work that honors familial history, the labor of care, and the quiet rituals of daily life.

She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Baylor University in 2019 and her Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in 2022. Her work has been recognized across Texas for its emotional depth and thoughtful craftsmanship, and in 2020, she was awarded First Place in the Texas National Competition and Exhibition.
