"In between having a dream and waking up, there is a last instant when nothing makes sense but everything is seen with perfect clarity. All the questions of a lifetime are answered definitively in that one moment, or so it seems. Then the dream dissolves and the answers dissolve with it, leaving more questions in their wake. J.T. Grant seems able to capture that moment of lucid unreason long enough to commit it to canvas. In his world, everything and nothing is sacred. Spiritualist and iconoclast in equal parts, he uses (and sometimes, rather hilariously, abuses) religious iconography as a means of tying together myth and reality."
J.T. Grant is an award winning artist whose work hangs in public and private collections from Manama Bahrain and London to The Dallas Museum, The Museum of South Texas and corporate and private collection in half the contiguous United States.
J.T. was born in Georgia and raised in the Tidewater region of Virginia just south of Washington, D.C. He took his BFA in painting and printmaking with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University. He moved to Texas to take his masters degree in painting from Texas Christian University.
He has had numerous solo shows and group exhibitions in Texas, New Mexico, New York, Georgia and Virginia. He has been awarded Best in Show by James Surls and Luis Jimenez among others.
His works feature luscious, rich palettes of high-key colors, made even more brilliant through the subtle juxtaposition of complementary tones. This vibrant interplay offers viewers instant visual gratification, inviting them to step into the painting, pause, and explore their own responses to both the composition and its underlying subtext.
