John Holt Smith – Curvature and Flow and Jeff Kellar – Locate

Exhibition on Display: May 5 – June 10, 2023

William Campbell Gallery (WCG) is pleased to announce two new solo exhibitions. Acclaimed Fort Worth artist, John Holt Smith in his exhibition titled: Curvature and Flow; and from Falmouth, Maine, Jeff Kellar. John Holt Smith’s exhibition includes over 11 works by the artist of large and small formats in his Oculus series. Jeff Kellar’s exhibition, Locate, will include 15 new works of varying colors and dimensions.

John Holt Smith’s exhibition: Curvature and Flow comprises large and medium format canvases and aluminum panels, all in his circular Oculus series. The paintings are expressed in new and vibrant color combinations. Works are inspired by new botanicals. These exuberant works are steeped in his alluring circular pattern-way that are elusive in their construction, the arrangements draw the eye to a center that seems to endlessly vibrate. The gallery began exhibiting Smith’s work in 2005. Smith’s work is in numerous notable collections including Terminal D at the DFW airport and the Joule Hotel in Dallas.

Jeff Kellar’s exhibition: Locate includes 16 new works by the artist that are focused on a brighter palette of yellow, red, white, and black. Kellar uses a unique medium of clay and resin atop aluminum panels that create a rich matte finish. The paintings include lines and planes that seem to trick the eye and protrude from the wall. Kellar describes his paintings as: “assemblages with seems of color giving an illusion of depth and space.” He goes on to comment that his new, “yellow paintings are about light and color and how they interact with each other.”

William Campbell Gallery director, Anne Kelly Lewis comments, “We are excited to present these new collections by John Holt Smith and Jeff Kellar. Both artists’ paintings emanate color, form, and lines that draw the viewer into their paintings. The 217 Foch Street presents these works well and we are excited to present them.”

The exhibition’s opening reception will take place on May 5, 2023, from 5:30 – 8 pm at William Campbell Gallery, 217 Foch Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. The show will run through June 10, 2023.
